Next Majlis will not be ‘obedient’ of government: Iranian leading MP

TEHRAN, May 6 (MNA) – Mohammad Reza Bahonar who has been reelected in the run-off parliamentary election said the next Majlis “will not be an obedient of the government”. Bahonar, the vice speaker of the ongoing parliament, also said, “The number of representatives who obey the government (in the Majlis) and only care about the government’s position in the Majlis are as much as the fingers of a hand.” Bahonar who was speaking to reporters on Friday before the votes in the run-off parliamentary election were counted, predicted that the Islamic Revolution Resistance Front will not succeed to garner enough seats to “dominate” the Majlis. Bahonar, a candidate on the United Front of Principlist list from the Tehran constituency, also said, “We cannot consider the Resistance Front as the supporters of government”, describing it as a group which demonstrates “radical behaviors”. He said in the first round of parliamentary election on March 2 the United Front of Principlists emerged victorious so that the number of UFP candidates who were elected to parliament in comparison to the Resistance Front was 3 to 1.
