Niger President Says No Talks Held With Iran On Uranium

Niamey, April 17, IRNA – Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou said on Tuesday that no talks had been held between Iran and Niger on uranium. Speaking at a joint press conference with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after singing a memorandum of understanding with Iran, Issoufou said Iran is a developed country, having rich experience in the field of geology and mining. ˈBoth Iran and Niger are determined to cooperate in the fields. No dialogue has been held between us on uranium, because there are uranium mines in Iran and the country is itself a uranium producer.ˈ He said President Ahmadinejadˈs visit to his country is a historical event, serving mutual interests. He said Niger and Iran share common stances on the most important regional and international issues. ˈIran is a developed and powerful country. Alike Iran, Niger believes that all nations should cooperate with one another to reinforce peace, friendship and security worldwide.ˈ President Ahmadinejad for his part said Tehran considers no limit for expansion of its relations with Niamey. ˈNeither Iran nor Niger has negative point in their relations, they have a common view about bilateral, regional and global relations.ˈ ˈThe Islamic Republic of Iran considers Nigerˈs progress as its own and both sides seek peace, justice and progress for all nations. So, lack of economic cooperation would not be justified in light of the extensive grounds prepared to.ˈ He said that Iran and Niger favor mutual interests serving themselves. Elsewhere, President Ahmadinejad told the press conference that the colonialists only consider their own interests by plundering wealth of other nations. They want all benefits and goods only for themselves, not considering that the other nations, the owners of the natural resources, are entitled to progress.
