No aid to Kiev as long as military crackdown is on in eastern Ukraine-German politician

BERLIN, May 8 (Itar-Tass) - The West should avoid extending financial aid to the authorities in Kiev as long as they use the army against their own people, the co-leader of the oppositional Left party, represented in the German parliament, Bernd Riexinger, has said. “The message to Kiev from the West should be loud and clear. There will be no financial aid to a government that uses the army against its own people,” the on-line version of the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung daily quotes Riexinger as saying. “The Ukrainian government must make its contribution and stop the military operation. The window to a peace settlement must be thrust open widely.” Ukrainian military, police, and ultra-nationalist groups are pushing ahead with a punitive operation against the supporters of federalization in the country’s eastern regions.
