Number of Syrians taking shelter in Turkey drops to 8,544


ANKARA (A.A) - July 13, 2011 - Number of Syrian people who escaped from the violence in their country and took shelter in Turkey dropped to 8,544 on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), a total of 60 Syrians had returned to their country in two days, however 43 more Syrians crossed into Turkey.
The number of Syrian nationals staying at the tent-sites were 8,544 on Wednesday.
A total of 15,533 Syrian citizens have crossed into Turkey so far, but 6,989 of them have returned to their country.
Syrians are staying in six temporary tent-sites set up by Turkish Red Crescent in Altinozu, Yayladagi, Reyhanli towns and Apaydin village of Turkey's southern province of Hatay.
Hundreds of people have been killed during pro-democracy protests in Syria since January 2011.
