Official: Egypt President Hopes To Attend NAM Summit In Tehran

Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA – An Iranian official said that the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has expressed readiness to attend the upcoming meeting of the organization in Tehran and said he would announce his official opinion soon.
According to the website of the headquarters in charge of holding the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran, the spokesman of the meeting Mohammad Reza Forqani made the remark after accompanying Vice President Hamid Baqaie to Cairo to submit the invitation message of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his Egyptian counterpart.
He said during the meeting with the Egyptian president, Baqaie submitted Ahmadinejad’s official invitation to the 16th NAM summit to him.
Noting that the meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, he also said that the two politicians discussed bilateral ties and ways of further promoting mutual relations.
He said Baqaie also referred to the religious and cultural commonalities which both countries share as well as their rich civilizations as two great Islamic countries and stressed the need to enhance unity and understanding between the two sides.
He also called for expansion of mutual relations.
Morsi thanked President Ahmadinejad for his invitation, Forqani added.
The 16th NAM Summit of Leaders will be held in Tehran from August 26-31.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will address the meeting. /end
