Official Slams US Sanctions On Iran Hand-woven Carpets

Tehran, Sept 24, IRNA – Head of the Union of Hand-Woven Carpet Producers and Exporters, Ahmad Karimi, said on Monday that by imposing sanctions on Iran's hand-woven carpet, the US has actually targeted the vulnerable class of society. Addressing a ceremony marking inauguration of the 22nd International Hand-Woven Carpet Exhibition on Monday, Karimi said since the US sanctions on Iranian carpets targets the vulnerable class of society, any complaint by Iran or preliminary talks would increase the possibility of sanctions being lifted. He noted that the Iranian government should lodge complaint against the illegal, inhuman and unsubstantiated sanctions of the US against Iranian hand-woven carpets. Since October 2010, the US government has banned imports of Iranian hand-woven carpets. Elsewhere in his address, Karimi called on the government to further support those involved in carpet industry./end
