Participants in EU-Japan summit to focus on economic and security matters

BRUSSELS, May 7 (Itar-Tass) - President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, and Japan's Premier Shinzo Abe will discuss economic and security matters during the 22nd European Union - Japan summit here on Wednesday. The bilateral talks, started in April 2013 and concerning a strategic partnership and free trade agreement, will be the main theme of the summit. The participants in the meeting at summit level will also discuss matters regarding cooperation on the security problems. "The EU and Japan intend to launch cooperation within the scope of current EU missions in (the African zone countries) Sahel and the Horn of Africa", pointed out a report circulated by the European Commission's press service on the eve of the summit.
