PDRC leader, activists indicted for street demonstration
BANGKOK, Jan 25 (TNA) -- Thai prosecutors decide to indict former protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban for leading street demonstrations against Yingluck Shinawatra government during 2013-2014.
Mr Suthep and 49 activists who led the now-defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) face seven charges related to the anti-government protests.
Mr Suthep and one of his close aides are also charged with terrorism.
Nine of them were summoned by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to hear indictment on Wednesday while 34 others have postponed the schedule.
Four individuals were indicted earlier and three of them are still under investigations.
The OAG’s indictments are based on the Department of Special Investigation’s decision to place charges on PDRC’s leaders’ role in the anti-Yingluck demonstrations which included the so-called Bangkok Shutdown campaign.
The charges include insurrection, illegal assembly and obstructing elections. (TNA)
