Permanent Rep meets with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Navi Pillay has received Mr V.Purevdorj, the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations. Mr Purevdorj affirmed that one of key principles of Mongolia’s foreign policy is to actively participate in the UN and its specialized organizations' actions focused on strengthening democracy, ensuring and protecting human rights and freedom. He said Mongolia intends to become a member of the UN Council for Human Rights for 2016-2018 in order to contribute to ensuring of human rights at international and regional levels, adding Mongolia decided to donate money to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and a voluntary fund for native citizens. Mr Purevdorj also pointed out that his country will send to the OHCHR its national middle-term report on human rights condition in near future. After this he expressed a willingness of Mongolia to cooperate with UN special mandate holders and exchanged views with the UN High Commissioner on expanding the cooperation with the OHCHR. In turn, Ms Pillay highly spoke Mongolian government’s big attention to ensuring and protecting human rights by a way of fortifying democracy, abolishing capital punishment and combating corruption. She wished big success to Mongolia in running for the UN Council for Human Rights election.
