PM to attend 25th APEC Summit

BANGKOK, Nov 9 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to attend the 25th APEC meeting in Vietnam and will reiterate Thailand’s contribution for the green economy in the region for sustainable development without degrading the environment. Deputy Government Spokesperson, Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak disclosed that the prime minister will attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Danang on November 10-12, to be held under the theme “Creating New Dynamism and Fostering Shared Future”. During the meeting, four issues will be focused including promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive Growth; deepening regional economic integration; strengthening Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) competitiveness and innovation in the digital age; enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change. The Thai Prime Minister will deliver a statement to share Thailand’s vision and its contribution to APEC especially in Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), Green Growth/Green Economy, and human resource development, as well as the Thai government’s policies in economic development. He will also highlight Thailand’s role in mobilizing APEC Strategy for Green, Sustainable and Innovative MSMEs, and will take part in the discussion on post-2020 APEC vision which will be beneficial to Thailand in its preparation to host APEC Summit in 2022. The Prime Minister and other APEC Economic Leaders will also exchange visions and strengthen cooperation with Asia-Pacific business sector at a plenary discussion with representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). Outcome document of the 25th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is “APEC Economic Leaders' Declaration” which contains 4 following addendums: Action Agenda on Advancing Economic, Financial and Social Inclusion; APEC Framework on Human Resources Development in the Digital Age; APEC Strategy for Green, Sustainable and Innovative MSMEs (developed by Thailand and Peru); Initiative on Promoting APEC Innovative Start-ups. Thai prime minister will also hold bilateral talks with leaders of Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea and Australia, he added. (TNA)
