PM attends Mekong River Commission Summit in Cambodia

BANGKOK, April 5 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha attends the 3rd Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit in Cambodia’s Siem Riep today. Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government spokesperson disclosed that the summit was attended by leaders from MRC member countries, comprising Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam as well as ministers from dialogue partners, China and Myanmar. Gen Prayut proposed cooperation in disaster risk management from drought and flood, and water quality, promotion of MRC’s role as knowledge hub of water and other resources management in the Mekong Basin. Siem Riep Declaration, expected to be endorsed will lay out high level priorities for the coming four years and reiterate the member countries’ shared responsibility for the future health and wealth of the Mekong River Basin. The MRC summit is convened every four years for regional political leaders to discuss and set policy on water and other resources management in the Mekong Basin. (TNA)
