PM: Hunts for Yingluck must comply with law
BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said efforts to arrest former and fugitive prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra would be in line with laws and the possibility of her extradition depended on Britain.
He responded to photographs of Yingluck reportedly in Britain. He said Britain had not officially confirmed her whereabouts and the Royal Thai Police Office would take legal actions on the issue. Gen Prayut said he did not make any special order on the matter.
“Actions will be taken according to normal steps. A notice will be issued to describe wrongdoing and they will consider it. What happened in the past? Did the previous one return? Was he sent back? So, do not let it become a local issue… There are many things that we cannot control,” Gen Prayut said.
He added that Thailand had received extradition requests from other countries and did not respond to all because it had to base decisions on its laws.
Ms Yingluck fled the country before the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions sentenced her last year to five years in jail for failing to stop her loss-ridden rice-pledging scheme. (TNA)
