PM praises war veterans
BANGKOK, Feb 3 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on Saturday thanked war veteran military soldiers for their devotion in defending Thailand and uphold the nation, religion and the monarchy, said a spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Veterans' Day in Thailand annually falls on February 3.
Quoting the prime minister, the spokesman said Gen Prayut’s remarks were made on the Veterans’ Day in Thailand as he also commended people and the society in providing care to disable soldiers and those who are now performing duty in protecting the country’s sovereignty.
War veterans have jointly defending the country’s sovereignty with their courage and unity and they should be “praised for their deeds”, the spokesman quoted Gen Prayut as saying, adding that they must uphold their virtues and discipline so that others can follow.
Also, Gen Prayut thanked the public for supporting the government-run War Veterans Organisation so that the agency would have enough money to take care of those wounded and disabled from performing duty.
Red poppies are sold on Veterans’ Day in Thailand under the initiative of the War Veterans Organisation. Money received from the sales of poppies are later given to the veterans and their families. (TNA)
