BANGKOK, July 31 (TNA) - To mark the Thai Women’s Day, which falls on every August 1, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has launched a project to promote Thai women’s roles and transferred funds for their development through all provinces, vowing that her government will promote the Thai women’s roles internationally. A ceremony to launch the project, presided by Premier Yingluck, was held Tuesday at the Impact Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok, in which about 10,000 members of women’s organizations participated. During her opening speech, Yingluck said she was honored to be the first female Thai prime minister and she will promote the roles of Thai women, referring to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s declaration for every August 1 as the Thai Women’s Day. The prime minister proclaimed that Her Majesty the Queen is the role model for all Thai women as Her Majesty is determined to promote women’s roles and her government is, thus, ready to promote women’s roles internationally and to enhance their capabilities by letting them work side by side with men. The Thai premier also acknowledged that the provincial funds for women will support the creation of jobs, activities and capabilities for local women so that they will have better life and can participate in politics and administration, and that many Thai women are capable and they should have opportunities to play leading roles locally and internationally. The prime minister then transferred funds for the development of women in all provinces. Each province initially receives 20 million baht for the promotion of local women’s roles. In the same event, set from July 31-August 1, there are also exhibitions on royal activities of Her Majesty the Queen, on the development of women’s roles, on medical services for women and vocational training for women, as well as a market of discount products.
