PM says parliament best platform discussing national reconciliation
BANGKOK, March 25 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Saturday that the parliament is the best platform for finding ways in achieving national reconciliation.
Speaking before departing for South Korea to attend the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, Yingluck said the best platform to discuss ways to achieve national reconciliation in which social divisiveness is seen sharply following the bloodless coup in September 2006 is the parliament as it belongs to the people.
Yingluck said she agreed that discussions on the issue could be held at various platforms but the parliament should be the main one. The government is willing to support and listen to opinions if they could help in building a favourable atmosphere in creating national reconciliation.
Asked whether she agreed with proposals offered by the Phrapokklao Institute on ways to obtain reconciliation in the country, Yingluck said they are only proposals and not the conclusion.
The conclusion should be obtained from debates in the parliament and opinions expressed democratically and peacefully by everybody, Yingluck said.
She said people should look forward and work together to enable the country to march progressively. Talks may take time as obstacles are solved gradually.
In her weekly radio address, Yingluck opined on her government’s performance in the past seven months that the people should assess it while she also studies surveys by different polls and opinions expressed by people so that she would improve the government’s works and meet people’s demands. (TNA)
