PM suggests 3 countries hold talks to move Dawei projects
SINGAPORE, April 28 (TNA) -- Realising that mega development projects in Dawei on the south-eastern part of Myanmar are moving quite slow, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha on Saturday told Myanmar President U Win Myint that the two countries plus Japan should hold discussions to furnish projects as soon as possible.
The two government leaders held talks on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Summit being held in Singapore.
According to Lt Gen Weerachon Sukhonthapatiphak, deputy government spokesman, Gen Prayut told President U Win Myint that his government is prepared to work closely with the Myanmar government, especially on building stability and security in this region as well as on developing border of the two neighbouring countries.
Gen Prayut told Myanmar president that Thailand, Myanmar and Japan, which is major financier for Dawei development projects, should hold talks as soon as possible so that they could continue, said Lt Gen Weerachon.
He also told U Win Myint, appointed the 10th president of Myanmar in late March this year, that authorities of the two countries should cooperate more on destroying drug trafficking and solving goods smuggling along the border, said Lt Gen Weerachon.
