PM thanks foreign workers, employers for cooperation on registration
BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha gave his appreciation to employers who took the time to legally register their foreign workers to enable the officials to look after their welfare.
The government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd told reporters that Gen Prayut was informed of the results of the foreign worker registration whose deadline ran out at midnight of March 31.
He said that as of noon on Sunday, the number of Cambodian, Laotian and Myanmar workers who were legally registered at the government's One-Stop-Service centre and through Online services amounted to 1,304,269 from a total of 1,379,252 known foreign nationals working in the country. This leaves 74,983 who have yet to be registered.
The spokesman said that after this, the Ministry of Labor will be sending out SMSs to all employers who have registered their employees to complete the final screening procedure by June 30.
With regards to foreign workers who have failed to register within the deadline they will not be permitted to remain or work in the country. Violators-both employers and employees, will be charged for violation of Thailand's Labor laws. (TNA)
