Politics - Interpol, United Nations announce long-term partnership agreement
NNA - United Nations Director-General in Geneva, Michael Mueller, and Head of the Interpol Organization, Elias el-Murr, announced their long-term partnership agreement during a joint press conference at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on Saturday.
The meeting was held between el-Murr, Mueller and other senior officials at the United Nations in Geneva, during which they agreed to support the UN plans to enhance the level of security and protection of the United Nations.
Speaking after the meeting, el-Murr praised Mueller's exerted efforts, thanking him for his "confidence and keenness to activate cooperation and partnership between the Interpol and the United Nations."
"We, at the Interpol Organization, will spare no effort to promote the face of security challenges, particularly terrorist threats, on a global level," el-Murr underscored.
He added: "Based on this principle, we are pleased to initiate our contribution to the success of the promotion of the level of security and protection of the United Nations plans."
El-Murr continued to empathize that "We will pursue our cooperation at all levels, and initiatives to fight terrorism and organized crime on a global level, especially since the terrorist cross-border operations exclude no one, becoming increasingly brutal and complicated, with growing terrorists and criminals capabilities."
"This increases the need for a comprehensive global response and an international commitment to cooperate responsibly and decisively to combat organized crime and eradicate terrorism, and promote global security," stressed el-Murr
For his part, Mueller expressed his gratitude and appreciation for "announcing, together with Mr. Murr, that the United Nations Office at Geneva has received a significant contribution from the Interpol Organization."
"In light of the evolving security situation facing the United Nations all over the world, and here in Geneva, this generous contribution will enable us to enhance the security and protection at the Palais des Nations," Mueller added.
"I am very pleased also to add that we had a good conversation today, and we agreed that this is the beginning of a close partnership between the Interpol and the United Nations in Geneva, and I look forward to working with this Organization," stated Mueller.
