Prawit to attend ASEAN defence ministers meeting

BANGKOK, Feb 3 (TNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon will attend a three-day ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Retreat, starting next Monday, in Singapore, said a Defence Ministry spokesman. Defence ministers of the 10-nation ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries will discuss situations which are challenging security in Southeast Asia, especially on terrorist threats, the spokesman said. They will also meet with Chinese high-ranking officers on marine security cooperation between ASEAN and China and a possible joint military sea drill between both sides with an aim to maintain peace in the region, the spokesman said. Besides strengthening cooperation among ASEAN members, the upcoming meeting will further help develop politics and security issues among them, the spokesman added. (TNA)
