Qatari Parliament Speaker: Iran-Qatar Ties Strategic

Palembang, Jan 31, IRNA - Qatari Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bin Mubarak al-Khalifi on Monday described Iran-Qatar ties as strategic. He made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on the sidelines of the 7th General Assembly Meeting of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union in Palembang, Indonesia. Al-Khalifi said that expansion of the two countries’ parliamentary ties would lead to deepening of the two countries' relations. “Conveying the Qtari Emir’s warm greetings for the Iranian government and nation, he said there are ample grounds for expansion of mutual ties and the two countries' parliaments can play a key role in this respect. Qatari Parliament Speaker invited Larijani to pay an official visit to Doha. The two day meeing kicked off today with participation of parliamentarians from 33 Islamic countries with 15 states being represented by the parliament speakers. The meeting is due to review the most important issues of Islamic world such as Islamic Awakening, Qods, Palestine’s membership in United Nations, making the Missle East free from weapons of mass destruction, new technologies and using atomic energy for peaceful purposes, fight against terrorism and sustainable development./end
