Ruling Pheu Thai Party denies Parliament dissolution rumour
BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) - Deputy Spokesperson of the ruling Pheu Thai Party Anusorn Iamsa-ard denied on Saturday a rumour that the coalition government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was preparing to dissolve the House of Representatives, after the Lower House passes the 2.5-trillion-baht 2014 fiscal budget bill and the administration completes its transfer of civil servants.
Anusorn affirmed that the ruling Pheu Thai Party has no plan to dissolve the House, saying that the incumbent coalition government has two years remaining under its current term, which it intends to complete.
According to the deputy spokesman, a House dissolution should not benefit any party and the Pheu Thai Party would likely, again, win if a new general election was held.
The Pheu Thai Party-led government has been under pressure for its heavy borrowing to pay for new mega-projects, its attempt to amend the 2010 Constitution and to push for a national reconciliation bill and its financial losses from its rice pledging programme.
Meanwhile, a poll conducted by Rajabhat Suan Dusit University from June 3-7 found that the majority of 1,336 respondents nationwide said issues which could affect the government’s stability include constitutional amendments (81.3 per cent of them), the borrowing (80.16 per cent) and the reconciliation bill (74.21 per cent).
