Russia’s Lavrov, Syria’s former National Coalition leader discuss int’l efforts against Islamic State

MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. Consolidation of international efforts to rebuff the terrorist threat coming from the Islamic State and other extremist groups were in focus of talks on Monday between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is currently on a working visit to Qatar, and former President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces Ahmad Mouaz al-Khatib. "Key attention was centered round the situation in Syria with a special focus on the necessity of political settlement of the Syrian crisis on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012, and on a swift consolidation of efforts of the world community in the interests of efficient struggle against the terrorist threat coming from the Islamic State and other extremist groups," the Russian foreign ministry said.
