Russia and Serbia are ready to start the procedure of singing an agreement on South Stream project - Medvedev

GORKI, July 7 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told journalists on Monday that Russia and Serbia were ready to start the procedure of singing an agreement on the South Stream project. “This project should not be politicized because it is mutually beneficial. Our negotiations with the Serbian partners have confirmed this approach,” Medvedev said after meeting his Serbian counterpart Aleksandr Vucic. “Our negotiations have made substantial progress. To tell you more, we are ready to start the procedure of signing an agreement on the South Stream project soon. I believe that it will, in the context of our bilateral relations, transfer the project to a new stage,” the Russian prime minister went on to say. Aleksandr Vucic, in turn, expressed the hope that all the remaining technical problems linked to the South Stream would soon be resolved. Meanwhile, the Serbian prime minister voiced his support for President Vladimir Putin’s peace initiatives for Ukraine. “We have supported all the peace initiatives of President Vladimir Putin and Russia,” Vucic told journalists, noting that Serbia had also supported Germany’s stance on the issue.
