Russia, Iran, Turkey to hold trilateral summit on Syria on September 11 - source

NUR-SULTAN, August 1. /TASS/. The three guarantors of the Astana process on Syria - Russia, Iran and Turkey - plan to hold a summit on September 11, a source close to the negotiations told TASS on Thursday. "A summit is planned to take place on September 11," he said. However, the Kremlin has so far announced no date for a Russia-Iran-Turkey summit. The source added that efforts to form a Syrian constitutional committee were progressing. "The committee’s establishment will be announced at the next summit of the Astana process," he said. According to the source, participants in a meeting on Syria that is taking place in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan on August 1-2 have managed to reach an understanding on the last candidates for the constitutional committee. Syrian constitutional committee On January 30, 2018, participants in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, held in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, decided to establish a constitutional committee that would work on the country’s new constitution. The committee is supposed to include representatives of the Syrian government and opposition, as well as civil society members. Each of the groups will hold one-third of seats in the committee.
