Salehi urges stronger NAM solidarity

Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA - Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi here on Thursday evening underlined the need for materialization of global solidarity. In a meeting with Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Salehi said economic issues are of importance at present juncture. He said trade exchanges among the NAM members are meager compared to the capacities available. He said Iran strives for upgrading trade cooperation among NAM members. He went on to say that Iran and Nepal should identify capacity for mutual cooperation, stressing the importance of engagement of private sectors and chambers of commerce. The Nepalese Foreign Minister for his part congratulated Iran for hosting the 16th NAM Summit and said despite the existing pressures, the summit has been successful so far. He expressed hope that the Summit would achieve fruitful outcome. He called on all NAM members to collectively strive for materialization of the organization's objectives. He also referred to 50 years of friendly relations between Iran and Nepal and said more contracts in various areas should be inked by the two nations. He urged expansion of tourism and activation of private sectors as well as contacts between the two commerce chambers. The two sides also agreed to form a trade committee to find mechanisms for upgrading mutual trade and economic cooperation
