Sarkozy’s defeat a result of wrong policies, says Iranian official

TEHRAN, May 7 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said that Nicolas Sarkozy’s defeat in the French presidential election shows the failure of his wrong policies. In the French presidential election on Sunday, socialist Francois Hollande defeated incumbent Sarkozy and was elected as France’s president. Mehmanparast said, “Mr. Sarkozy’s defeat is a sign of his wrong policies and approaches, particularly with regard to hostility toward regional countries, Afghanistan’s issue, developments in the Middle East, and hostility toward the Islamic Republic of Iran.” “This defeat is also a sign of the failure of wrong policies in a period during which the power of France was on the wane due to dependence on and following the policies of the Unites States with regard to various international issues,” he said, adding, “These matters, over the past years, led to the fact that Mr. Sarkozy failed to win the majority of the votes to be elected for a second term.” He also expressed hope that Hollande will adopt right policies in order to rectify the wrong policies of France.
