SCO leaders call for political settlement in Syria - organization’s chief

ASTANA, June 9. /TASS/. Leaders of member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have called for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis, the group’s Secretary-General Rashid Alimov told reporters after the summit in Kazakhstan's Astana on Friday. "The heads of state called for political settlement in the Syrian Arab Republic through a broad intra-Syrian dialogue based on provisions of the respective resolutions of the UN Security Council," Alimov said speaking about the results of a meeting of the Council of Heads of State. The SCO leaders are convinced that "the Astana process will contribute to creating the necessary conditions for finding an acceptable solution to the Syrian crisis by all the parties concerned in the framework of the Geneva process under the UN auspices," he said.
