Sharq newspaper found not guilty of insulting combatants

TEHRAN,Dec.24(MNA) – During its session on Sunday, the jury of the Iranian press court found the pro-reform Sharq newspaper not guilty of insulting the combatants that fought in the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war by publishing a controversial cartoon. Iran’s supervisory board for the media voted on September 26 to close the Sharq newspaper for publishing the cartoon. The cartoon had provoked a reaction among some officials, MPs, and student unions.
