Singapore's PM Congratulates Dr M as Malaysia New PM

  By Massita Ahmad ​​​​​​​ SINGAPORE, May 11 (Bernama) -- Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has congratulated Dr Mahathir Mohamad on being sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister. “I wish Tun (Dr) Mahathir and his team every success, and hope to catch up with him in person soon,” he said in his latest Facebook posting. “Malaysia is a vital partner of Singapore, and our peoples share a strong and deep bond. I look forward to working with Tun (Dr) Mahathir and the new government to enhance our cooperation. We can do much more together,” he ended his posting with his initial LHL. Dr Mahathir, 92, has been sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister at Istana Negara Thursday. He has been dubbed the oldest elected prime minister in the world. Meanwhile, the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the people of Malaysia had given the new government a clear mandate to lead the country.  “Malaysia is Singapore’s nearest neighbour and a vital partner. We have had close relations and extensive cooperation with successive Malaysian governments, including the government of Tun (Dr) Mahathir when he was previously prime minister.  “We look forward to cooperating with Tun (Dr) Mahathir and the new government of Malaysia to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties, for the benefit of both our peoples,” it said in a statement.
