Some Syrian opposition groups ready to hold talks in Tehran: Iranian FM

TEHRAN,Aug.11(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Thursday that a number of Syrian opposition members have announced their readiness to attend a meeting in Tehran on the crisis engulfing the Arab country. Salehi made the remarks during a press conference held shortly after the Tehran Consultative Meeting on Syria, which was convened in the Iranian capital on Tuesday. During the press conference, Salehi was asked if an emergency Islamic summit, which is scheduled to be held in Mecca on August 14 and 15, can help bring Iran’s views on Syria closer together with those of Saudi Arabia and certain other countries involved in the Syrian issue. “Through participating in the summit, in addition to expressing our views, we will try to narrow the gap and differences through dialogue,” he stated. “In the summit, we will hold talks with Saudi Arabian officials on regional issues,” Salehi said, adding, “The efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran are meant to narrow the gap and differences and insist more on common issues through these negotiations.” “If attention is paid to common issues, more progress can definitely be made,” he added.
