South Korea upholds VISA exemptions for Thailand

BANGKOK, Aug 27 (TNA) -- The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there was no truth in the rumors that South Korea would be revoking its visa exemption for Thai tourists in particular. Director-General of the Information Department Ms Busadee Santipitaks in her capacity as the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responding to rumors went on viral on social media that South Korea is considering to lift the visa exemptions for Thai nationals due to many Thai workers taking advantage of the dispensation to illegally seek employment there. She stated that the ministry has not received any official notice from South Korea. Ms Busadee confirms that Thailand and South Korea still officially recognizes a 90 day visa exemption for tourists holding Thai passports. However, she issued a warning to all Thais wishing to travel to South Korea that stricter immigrations screening was being initiated and advised that they respect the laws of other countries. Ms Busadee stated that violators must be aware that illegally working in South Korea, the workers will be denied social or health security and their welfare cannot be officially guaranteed. The worst case is that Thai workers could be misled into a criminal offense. (TNA)
