Speaker visits Oyu Tolgoi mine

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Chairman of the State Great Khural Z.Enkhbold along with his accompanying delegation got au fait with the operations at Oyu Tolgoi mine on March 6. Oyu Tolgoi Director in charge of the local affairs Ms Sh.Baigalmaa gave a status report on the local projects. After the report, the Speaker visited the operating site at the open pit. On February 18, nineteen months after the first concentrate export, the amount of extracted copper concentrate reached one million tonnes. The mine produced 148400 tonnes of copper concentrate and 589000 ounces of gold concentrate in 2014. Ores exploited at the open pit go to the crusher and concentrate plants for procession. The mine intends to extract 175-195 thousand tonnes of copper concentrate and 600-700 thousand ounces of gold concentrate this year, informed the staff. During his conversation with the driver Solongo, one of 16 women drivers who operate Komatsu machines, the Speaker noted these women manifest the might of Mongolian women to work and create. He also legged the crusher, concentrate plant and packaging machine cells. According, the mine has 6500 workers, of which 95 percent are Mongolians. Twenty one percent of the staff comprises the local citizens of Omnogovi aimag. The Statistics show that the Mine had purchased products and services worth of USD 42 million from the registered supplier in the aimag. Oyu Tolgoi LLC has accumulated approximately 250 million US dollars of tax payment into the State Budget last year. The speaker was accompanied by his senior adviser S.Lambaa, adviser D.Lhagvasuren, D.Bat-Erdene MP, the head of the Board of Oyu Tolgoi LLC G.Batsukh, the executive director of Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi LLC and the Board member D.Ganbold, and the general manager responsible for open pit operations of Oyu Tolgoi Andrew Miller.
