Syrian crisis should be resolved peacefully, Iranian FM tells Jordanian king

TEHRAN,May 8(MNA) – The crisis that has gripped Syria for over two years should be resolved through peaceful means, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said at a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman on Tuesday. Salehi called the continuing crisis in Syria “dangerous”, saying that it may affect other countries in the region. A political solution should be found to resolve the situation, he added. Commenting on bilateral ties, Salehi expressed hope that relations between the two countries would expand in various areas. The Jordanian king, for his part, emphasized the necessity of the adoption of more convergent policies on regional and international issues by Iran and Jordan. Jordanian PM thanks Iran for sending aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan The Iranian foreign minister also held a meeting with Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, in which the Jordanian official thanked Iran for sending humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees in Jordan. During the meeting, the two officials also called for the expansion of ties. In addition, Salehi held a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in which he condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Syria. He also reiterated Iran’s opposition to foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and support for extremist groups in the Arab country. Judeh called for a halt to the violence in Syria. And he said that Iran had a right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Salehi left Amman for Damascus on Tuesday.
