Tehran supports Syria as Damascus backs Lebanon, Hezbollah: Iranian diplomat

TEHRAN,April 9(MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said that the Islamic Republic sides with Syrian government and people as Damascus has been supporting Lebanon and the Hezbollah movement. Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers of Oman, in Muscat on Sunday. Commenting on Iran’s support for holding a national dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition groups, he said that Iran has never wanted insecurity and conflict in the region, rather it has made every effort to promote regional peace. He added that Iran monitors the developments in Syria, Yemen, and Bahrain with this approach. He went on to say that certain Western countries intend to make geographical changes in the region but Iran will never allow the countries to harm regional nations’ interests.
