Thai court sentences 10 men involved in attacks in South

BANGKOK, May 3 (TNA) -- A Thai court hands down verdicts for 10 men found guilty of staging insurgent attacks in Thailand’s south in 2016, with six of them facing death sentences. The 10 defendants were prosecuted for their involvement in six bomb attacks between June and December of 2016 in the southern border province of Pattani. The Royal Thai Army announced that the provincial court of Pattani sentenced six men to death penalty, three others to life imprisonment and 39 years in jail for the other man. Spokesman for the forward command of the Fourth Region Internal Security Operation Command (ISOC) Col Pramote Phrom-in said the attacks resulted in two deaths and more than 20 injuries. Their crimes had caused losses to properties and public fear, Col Pramote said in a press briefing outside the Central Mosque of Pattani where one of the attacks occurred. He said the 10 men had the right to appeal to the court. (TNA)
