Thai Foreign Minister thanks EU for restoring relations
BANGKOK, Dec 12 (TNA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai expressed his gratitude towards the European Union for deciding to restore relations with Thailand and expected both sides to improve their cooperation.
Mr Don was responding to the EU’s resolution to restore political ties with Thailand on the condition that an election would be organised as scheduled, lese majeste suspects would not be prosecuted and civilian suspects would not be tried in a military court.
The stance relieved political tension at a certain extent and EU members could invite Thailand to the meetings of national leaders, Mr Don said. Besides, Thailand could receive assistance from the EU, he said.
He commented that the EU’s decision resulted from Thai political development and would boost investors’ confidence in Thailand.
The foreign minister also said that all concerned parties still assured the next general election would be organised as scheduled in accordance with the government’s roadmap and Thailand and the EU would improve mutual understanding in the next year. (TNA)
