Thai PM confirms progress on water management plans

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra confirmed Wednesday progress of her government's water management plans to cope with the monsoon season later this year. Yingluck told reporters that she has closely monitored the progress of her administration's water management plans in all areas across the country, covering upstream, mid-stream and downstream flood-prone zones, noting that some projects have already been implemented. Yingluck acknowledged that she has instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit to speed up the implementation of the plans in the remaining areas with transparency, and that concerned authorities have assured they will complete all their assigned tasks within schedule. The Thai premier said that she believes her government's new water management plans, tailored in the wake of the country's massive flooding late last year, will cope with a renewed inundation, if any, in most areas, announcing that she will visit the flood-prone provinces to personally inspect progress of the official water management plans late this month.
