Thai PM launches "Stop Corruption" campaign

BANGKOK, August 18 (TNA) - In a bid to get rid of corruption from Thailand, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presided over a ceremony in Bangkok this morning to launch her government's anti-corruption campaign. Announcing that her administration opposes every form of corruption, Yingluck said during the ceremony, held in front of the CentralWorld shopping plaza and complex in the heart of the capital, that her Pheu Thai Party-led government has also opened three channels for the public to lodge complaints against corruption. According to the Thai premier, the three channels include installing 181 boxes accepting the public complaints nationwide, airing complaints at provincial offices, bus terminals, airports and state-run Krung Thai Bank and through social networks. As the prime minister launched the campaign, a prison official in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in the Thai South was shot dead, after he did not allow any smuggling of crystal methamphetamine or ‘ice’ into the prison. Local police reported that the body of the 49-year-old official was found on a roadside near his motorcycle, and that the victim had told police of the illegal activities at his prison several times.
