Thai PM:National reconciliation is to be approved by majority
BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Saturday that a national reconciliation study conducted by the King Prajadhipok’s Institute and approved by the House of Representatives on early Friday will be further carefully studied by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and other concerned ministers and only proposals which benefit the majority will be officially approved.
Asked by journalists whether the approved study would be open for a public referendum, Yingluck acknowledged that a concerned committee will have to study first which part of the study should be proceeded by the government by taking public benefit into account.
Touching on an objection lodged by Thailand's main opposition Democrat Party against the approved study, which could lead to widening social divisiveness, the Pheu Thai premier insisted that her government would proceed on what could be beneficial to the majority of the people.
On a reported attempt by her ruling Pheu Thai Party to push for a parliamentary debate on an amnesty bill within September 2012, Premier Yingluck said she has had no knowledge on the plan. (TNA)
