Thai PM:Women’s development fund will enhance females’ potential
BAGNKOK, March 19 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that her government-initiated women’s development fund will guarantee fair opportunities for Thai women of all careers and religions.
Yingluck delivered the message while meeting representatives of women’s organizations located in Thailand's southern Andaman season region in Phang-nga province Monday, an activity being part of her ongoing missions in the Thai South from March 19-20, when she will also chair a Cabinet mobile meeting in adjacent Phuket province Tuesday.
Yingluck acknowledged that the new government-run women’s development fund is financed by a soft loan and will be spent on promoting vocations of local women throughout the country so that they can help raise their families.
The Pheu Thai premier insisted that the women's development fund gives equal access to local women of all careers and regions, with four ministries namely the Ministries of Interior, Education, Social Development and Human Security and Public Health tasked with jointly manage the fund under the supervision of the Prime Minister's Office.
The first female Thai premier explained that the new women's development fund is aimed to help local women who are abused or capable but lack opportunities or who wants to learn.
The Thai prime minister also inspected outstanding products of women in the southern Andaman coastal provinces and tried batik painting, as well as inspected the construction of a tsunami memorial in Baan Bang Niang of the Khuek Khak locality in Phang-nga's Takua Pa district, where she wrote a message of sorrow and condolences in visitors’ book and promised to develop tsunami-damaged communities and promote local tourism.
