Thailand is closely in contact with US, UK over Rolls-Royce, General Cabel Corp scandal
BANGKOK, 1 Feb (TNA) -- Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in contact with US and UK authorities over Rolls-Royce and General Cable Corp bribery scandals as the Thai anti-graft agency conducts investigation into the allegation of Thai officials’ involvements.
Officials of Thai Airways International, PTT and two electricity authorities have been implicated to have allegedly taken bribes to favor UK Rolls-Royce and US-based General Cable Corp.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudvinai reiterated that representatives of Thailand had accommodated the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) tasked for scandal probes in seeking information from the two countries.
Cooperation on the cases benefited the NACC by ways of strengthening international anti-corruption efforts, Don commented.
The government of Thailand has given the NACC full authority in the probes and to obtain information from the UK's Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the US Justice Department.
The ongoing investigations seek to find out whether alleged recipients of bribes worth billions of baht from Rolls-Royce and General Cable in return for lucrative business deals with Thai state enterprises. (TNA)
