Thailand, Laos cooperate to legalise migrant workers

BANGKOK, Feb 28 (TNA) - Thailand and Laos cooperate to legalise migrant workers to prevent employers from taking advantage of them. Deputy Government Spokesperson Lt-General Weerachon Sukondhapatipak said Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha welcomed Lao ambassador Seng Soukhathivong at Government House as the ambassador took his new post in Bangkok. The two sides discussed labour cooperation. Thailand supports migrant labourers to work in Thailand legally. The registration of migrant workers will help protect them from being taken advantage by employers and they will be eligible to receive the proper welfare. Thailand asked Laos to help Thailand finish the processes to legalize Lao workers before the lenient period ends on June 30 and the executive decree on the management of migrant workers will take effect in July. Regarding regional connection, Thailand supports Lao land-linked policy and is ready to develop basic infrastructure for transportation connection between the two countries. - (TNA)
