Thailand's opposition urges government to extend censure debate

BANGKOK, November 23 (TNA) - Thailand’s main opposition Democrat Party has called for the coalition government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to extend the upcoming no-confidence debate in a House session from two to three days. A leading Democrat Party list-MP, Ong-art Klampaiboon made the call on Saturday (Nov 23), saying that his party considers the two-day censure debate, set by the government side from November 26-27 with the no-confidence vote on November 28, is not enough and House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont should consider extending it to three days. Ong-art insisted Premier Yingluck, who is also Defence Minister, should allow the opposition camp to fully monitor her coalition government’s performance, as the no-confidence debate is held only once a year and the prime minister should, thus, realise its importance.
