Thammasat University celebrates Thai-Russian 120 years of relations

BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) -- Thammasat University organised the celebration for the 120th anniversary of Thai-Russian relations as Ambassador of Russia to Thailand Kirill Barsky said the two countries will work together to move ahead to success. The Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University held the celebrations to commemorate King Chulalongkorn’s historic visit to Russia in 1897, the milestone for the establishment of close ties between the two countries. The event showcases an exhibition on the historical timeline of diplomatic relations, academic works, related to Russia and Russian cultural performance, cooking demonstration of Russian food and a seminar on “Modern Russia and Modern Thailand.” The Russian ambassador said Thailand is the first nation among ASEAN countries, which established diplomatic relation with Russia and have close cooperation in the past 120 years. Key cooperation has been made on security, anti -terrorism, transnational crime and cyber attack. He expected closer ties in the future with policies to become strategic partners and a negotiation on a free trade pact between Eurasian Economic Union and ASEAN is in the process. (TNA)
