There is no democracy without freedom of press, Turkey's chief EU negotiator says

WASHINGTON (A.A) - 17.03.2011 - Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis has said that there was no democracy in a country where there was no freedom of press.
And a country, which does not have democracy, cannot make a serious demand during EU membership process, added Bagis who met Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, in Washington on Wednesday.
However, being a press member does not give the freedom to commit a crime, said Bagis.
Bagis told reporters that during the meeting he also conveyed that approaches to prevent opening of chapters under Turkey's EU membership talks were irrational. 
We also expressed the expectations of Turkish citizens from Europe about fight against terrorism and visa issue, added Bagis.
