Thousands in Turkey protest terrorist attack

ANKARA (A.A) - July 18, 2011 - Thousands of Turkish citizens held demonstrations all across Turkey on Sunday to protest last week's bloody terrorist attack that left 13 soldiers dead in southeastern province of Diyarbakir.
Protestors, some of whom gathered upon calls made on several social networking sites on the internet, held simultaneous demonstrations in numerous Turkish provinces including capital Ankara, Istanbul and Aegean city of Izmir.
Carrying Turkish flags in their hands and singing the National Anthem, crowds chanted slogans condemning terrorism during the protests.
Citizens also vowed to protect the unity of their country, gave messages of brotherhood and expressed determination to continue to fight with terrorism.
Security forces took intensive measures during the demonstrations and no significant incidents were reported, officials said.
Last Thursday, PKK terrorists killed 13 Turkish soldiers and wounded 7 others in an ambush in Silvan town of southeastern Diyarbakir province. Turkish Armed Forces said seven terrorists were killed in the clash.
