Three detained in connection with forest fires in western Turkey

IZMIR (A.A) – August 16, 2011 – Police detained three people on Tuesday in connection with the fires which broke out in forested areas in western Izmir province on Sunday.
On August 14, fires broke out in forested areas in Kizildag and Kozbeyli hamlets of Foca town in Izmir which were put out by teams of Izmir Forestry Directorate. At least 2.5 hectares of forested area was destroyed in the fires.
Izmir Security Department stated on Tuesday that the detained people came from the southeastern province of Hakkari to Izmir on Friday, and arrived in Foca on Sunday.
The department noted that one of the detained people was a member of PKK terrorist organization, adding that another one would be sent to juvenile court as he was under 18.
Two of the detained people were sent to court after their interrogation was completed.
