TOP SUSPECT IN TURKEY MATCH-FIXING SCANDAL UNDER ARREST AGAIN
Aziz Yildirim, chairman of Fenerbahce soccer club and the chief suspect in a match-fixing scandal, was discharged from hospital on Thursday after having an angiogram and he was sent back to police custody pending a court appearance expected later on Friday. Yildirim refused to talk to the police but what he told to his family members was striking: "The bet is on me. They are trying to take me down. But if I go down I will take everyone with me," Yildirim reportedly said.
TOP COURT OVERTURNS APPEAL OF BANNED LAWMAKER
Turkey's Constitutional Court on Thursday overturned an appeal by Hatip Dicle -- who was barred by a top election body form taking his seat at the parliament -- saying that it had no such jurisdiction. The top court cited Article 79 of the Constitution, which says the decisions of the Supreme Election Board or the YSK are not open to judicial review.
