Turkey takes over command of NATO standing NATO maritime group

MARMARIS (A.A) - June 17, 2011 - Turkey took over on Friday the command of Standing NATO Maritime Group-2 (SNMG-2) from the Netherlands.
A handover ceremony took place at the Aksaz Naval Base in Turkey's resort town of Marmaris.
"SNMG-2's command rotates among countries taking part in the task group," commander Admiral Sinan Azmi Tosun told reporters.
SNMG2 is a multinational, integrated maritime force - made up of vessels from various allied nations, training and operating together as a single team - that is permanently available to NATO to perform a wide range of tasks, from participating in exercises to crisis response and real world operational missions.
