Turkey's chief EU negotiator meets delegation from French Senate in Ankara
ANKARA (A.A) - 29.03.2011 - Turkey's chief negotiator for talks with the European Union (EU) met with a delegation from the French Senate in capital Ankara on Tuesday.
Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU Talks Egemen Bagis got together with the French delegation headed by Jean Bizet, Chairman of the Committee for European Affairs in the French Senate, over breakfast at the Secretariat General for EU Affairs headquarters.
Speaking at the gathering, Bagis said Turkish-French relations were based on three major pillars which he listed as the bilateral relations dating back to the 15th century, relations in international platforms and Turkey's EU negotiation process.
"Even though we cannot totally agree on everything, we find a middle way in negotiations," Bagis said.
The minister noted that Turkey's EU process had started with France's support, however, there were currently several obstacles on the way.
Bagis said he would pay a visit to France in early April, adding that Turkey was displaying efforts to overcome the problems in the negotiation process.
Bizet, in his part, said that the French Senate was a friend of Turkey's.
